THE PROJECT
Commissioned for ATFest26, Compass is a site specific audio-visual video projection mapping by studio blekksprut1 (NO), designed for the historical Lecce stone architecture Balnea.
Compass is inspired by the festival theme «ecologies of difference», the region Puglia (Apulia), the architectural structure of Balnea and elements from art by local artist Giancarlo Moscara.
Inspired by the artistic philosophy of Moscara, Compass reinterprets the concept of the “Punti Cardinali” (Cardinal Points).
Moscaras painting «Sud, Est, Ovest, Nord» sums up his concert concept, including an apple surrounded by the cardinal points placed in the wrong order. For Moscara the apple is a symbol of the direction we need to go – knowledge!
Compass is an inquiry into finding our path forward. Utilizing the symbolic imagery of the poppy – representing Southern Italy, healthy soil, fertility and the cycles of the earth.
Compass serves as a symbolic guide, challenging both the individual and the collective to navigate toward a more sustainable future, urging the audience to reflect: how do we ensure the compass is pointing in the right direction to protect our biodiversity and ensure a thriving planet?
