THE PROJECT
In the Meantime, Water is a kinetic, light, and sound installation that explores the perception of time through water, contrasting the continuous flow of water with the slow fall of a single drop.
Stroboscopic light alters the perception of the droplets, making their movement appear almost suspended in time, while a continuous soundscape evokes the vastness and power of local waters.
The work invites the viewer to slow down and attune to the subtle temporalities of matter and environment.
BIOGRAPHY
Chiara Sole Funiati is a visual artist and sculptor whose practice explores matter, ecology, and technology, investigating the relationships between bodies, environments, and non-human presences.
Her practice spans sculpture, installation, video, sound, and interactive devices.
Through organic and synthetic materials, water, light, and sonic phenomena, she investigates processes of material transformation and the often slow or imperceptible temporalities that shape natural environments.
From a transfeminist and hydrofeminist perspective, her research explores the agency of matter and the possibility of decentering the human gaze. Direct observation of territories intertwines with material and technological experimentation, generating devices in which subtle phenomena—a flow, a vibration, a variation in light—become tools for altering the perception of space and time.
In 2023, she identified Plastitar along the coast of Salento, a formation resulting from the interaction between petrochemical residues, plastics, and the coastal environment, which subsequently became the subject of scientific research. This approach to territory as a space of observation and relation runs throughout her entire practice.
Her installations construct perceptual and sensory environments in which matter, sound, light, and technology act together, seeking forms of listening capable of bringing forth rhythms and temporalities different from those that govern human experience.
