THE PROJECT
On the evenings of September 11, 12, and 13, 25 LuminousBees will swarm above the venues of atFest, pollinating the airspace above the festival community with creativity, lights, shapes, colors, and collective dances. They will draw us into an environmental performance that transcends the boundaries of properties and architectures anchored to the ground.
Two choreographies have been prepared for the event. The first, inspired by the world of bees, will immerse us in the behaviors of the bee superorganism and its interaction with the biosphere. The second will interpret the language of Aerial Media Arts, accompanied by a soundtrack composed specifically for the event to celebrate the festival and its themes.
BIOGRAPHY
Giorgio Rinolfi is an Italian visual artist with extensive work related to new technologies particularly physical computing oriented to the development of novel performative tools for live experience, interaction design, exhibition design and new expressive paradigms and formats.
Throughout his multifaceted research, he has collaborated and integrated his work with theater, dance, music, and painting, and for the past 17 years, with autonomous aerial micro-robotics with open source UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and MAV (Micro Aerial Vehicle).
In 2016 he coined the term “Aerial Media Arts” (AMA) on which he developed his PhD thesis at the University of Genoa. In 2019 he presented the first work in which a swarm of luminous drones visualizes the internal activity of an Artificial Intelligence mind.
His work revolves around multidimensional processes, interaction design and exploration of the human-machine relationship for artistic collaboration with swarms of micro aerial robots (SUAVs).
He founded and runs the innovative startup LuminousBees with which he has built an ecosystem of Open Source-based technologies for AMA and of which he is the artistic director.
